Professional Certifications for Sustainability Assurance

Rigorous credentials for practitioners subject to regulatory scrutiny

Capability Benchmarks develops examination-based professional certifications for sustainability assurance practitioners. Every credential is built from regulatory obligations, tested under examination conditions, and designed for practitioners who must defend their work.

COMPLEMENTARY STANDARDS

Two certifications. Two domains. One professional standard.

CS-AP provides the engagement methodology for sustainability assurance under ISSA 5000. CS3-SCA provides the technical depth for the most challenging audit area: Scope 3 value chain emissions. The ideal practitioner holds both.

CS-AP — The Methodology

Covers the full ISSA 5000 engagement lifecycle: acceptance, planning, risk assessment, materiality, evidence gathering, and reporting. Applicable to all sustainability assurance engagements regardless of subject matter. The standard every sustainability assurance practitioner needs.

CS3-SCA — The Specialism

Addresses the technical complexities specific to Scope 3 emissions: boundary logic, evidence hierarchy, estimation methodology, and completeness assessment across fifteen value chain categories. For practitioners working at the frontier of emissions assurance.

WHO THESE CERTIFICATIONS SERVE

Designed for practitioners, not students

Both certifications assume professional assurance experience. They develop judgement and methodology, not introductory knowledge.

Mid-Tier Audit Firms

Practitioners at firms like BDO, Grant Thornton, Mazars, RSM, and Crowe who are being assigned sustainability assurance engagements and need ISSA 5000 competence before the December deadline.
Sustainability Consultancies

Non-audit professionals conducting assurance-type work who need to demonstrate compliance with ISSA 5000 and register with oversight bodies such as the UK FRC.
Verification & Internal Audit

Environmental verification bodies and internal audit teams preparing for external sustainability assurance who need to understand what the assurance process demands.
OUR APPROACH

Examination-first methodology

Every Capability Benchmarks certification begins with the examination. The assessment defines the capability standard. The curriculum exists to prepare practitioners for that standard. we understand what practitioners must be able to do and teach them to do it.

The same professional discipline that has governed financial reporting for generations now applies to sustainability assurance. The uncertainty is real. The framework for navigating it is not.
